Soooo, I’ve deciced to run a HALF MARATHON! Yup,. I signed up already even. I’m doing the Run Run Rudolph Half in Peoria, AZ in December. I also signed up for a 5K Bubble Run in November, just for fun. So far I’ve done a 5K and a 4 Mile Race. On the 4 mile race, I actually RAN THE WHOLE WAY even though it was really hot. Wow, I totally surprised myself.
Anyways, I digress. Back to my half marathon and the “oh shit what did I just do moment.” I panicked for a minute, then called my friend/running coach Renee over at Body Mind Strong. She told me I definitely CAN do it. She’s going to be there (well, virtually since she lives in a different state) for me to help me.
I’m also following a couple of great women running facebook groups, Not Your Average Runner (Jill Angie) and Another Mother Runner. Those are great groups for motivation and questions.
So, basically, training for a half means running at least every other day or so and having one of those runs be a “long run” each week. Every week I will increase the distance/time of my long run. Running 3 or 4 miles using the run/walk method isn’t all that hard, really. But 7, 10, 11 miles? Ya, that’s REAL mileage and it will take dedication and consistency to my training plan.
So, stay tuned here and on my Facebook page for Fit After 50 Forever too (and sometimes I post on Instagram). I will be doing video blogs here way more often and consistently.
What is the longest distance you’ve ever run (without someone chasing you that is)?
